Most Anticipated Films of 2026

2026 is going to be a fantastic year for movie fans, whether you enjoy action or romance, horror or comedy 2026 has it all on the slate! Here is a list of the films I am most looking forward to watching this year! Most of which will be cinema releases - what can I say, I love a dark screening, a bucket of popcorn and a great film. That feeling of pure escapism is what we should all be enjoying this year. However, there are some great steaming options available too, I just wish we could get those on the big screens as well.

"Wuthering Heights" - 13th February 2026

Directed by: Emerald Fennel

Starting: Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, Shazad Latif and Martin Clunes

Will this film be an accurate retelling of Emily Brontë's classic: absolutely not. Will it be a fantastic visual spectacle yes! Striking visauals combined with yearning and off the charts chemistry and a soundtrack by Charlie XCX is bound to make this film a success. I have already watched the trailer countless times (so much so that it has become a guilty pleasure) and I am obsessed by the Charlie XCX song 'Chains of Love.'

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man - 6th March 2026

Directed by: Tom Harper.

Staring: Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Sophie Rundle and Barry Keoghan.

The Peaky Blinders are back! From a small show that started on BBC 2 it has come a long way! The film releases on Netflix and in selected cinemas and is set to be the official ending to Thomas Shelby. I cannot wait to see what the ending has in store for us, I'm hoping for something explosive.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie - 3rd April 2026

Directed by: Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic

Staring: Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Brie Larson.

The first film was a lot of fun and I expect the sequel to be full of laughs as well. It will be great to expand the universe and welcome Rosalina. This is sure to be a massive film in the spring. I just hope my favourite cheerful star features heavily.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 - 1st May 2026

Directed by: David Frankel

Staring: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

The first film is simply iconic! Can you make iconic twice? With this cast I thick you certainly can. I think we can expect a deviation to the book, but that should not deter fans. There is a possibly that Andy learnt all too well from the devil and has become one herself and lets hope we get to see Emily in Paris!

The Mandalorian and Grogu - 22nd May 2026

Directed by: Jon Favreau

Staring: Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.

Star Wars is back on the big screen, nothing is more exciting than that. It has become my tradition to attend the midnight screenings of Star Wars films, so I'll be inline with my hair styled like Padmè for this one! Let's see what magic Jon Favreau has in store for us.

Shiver - 3rd July 2026

Directed by: Claire McCarthy

Starting: Maddie Ziegler, Levi Miller, Sofia Wylie and Iman Vellani

I read the Shive series years ago. For anyone that was a fan of Twilight then this film will likely be for you! I just hope it doesn't fall into the list of Young Adult romance fantasy films that end after one film. (Fallen and The Mortal Instruments).

Moana - 10th July 2026

Directed by: Thomas Kail

Staring: Catherine Laga'aia, Dwayne Johnson, John Tui, Frankie Adams and Rena Owen.

I loved the animated film and cannot wait to see how specular this film looks in live action. The Disney live action films have had decided fans and critics alike. I myself pop them into either love or would not watch again categories. But Moana has the potential to be fantastic and I cannot wait to see a live action Tamatoa.

The Odyssey - 17th July 2026

Directed by: Christopher Nolan

Staring: Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong'o and Robert Pattinson.

Th film is directed by Christopher Nolan, need I say more? The cast is stacked with some of the best actors in the industry, that combined with the visual style of Nolan, I think we are onto a winner.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping - 20th November 2026

Directed by: Francis Lawrence

Staring: Joseph Zada, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Kieran Culkin, Whitney Peak, Glenn Close, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson.

The Hunger Games series has a special place in my heart, both the books and films. This series is heartbreaking, scary and so incredibly made that they never fail to impress. And let's not forget the film announcement coming only hours after the book announcement, that was some incredible marketing.

Jumanji 3 - 11th December 2026

Directed by: Jake Kasdan

Staring: Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kaven Hart, Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas.

Will this film be an award winner, probably not. Will it be great fun, absolutely. The first two films are just insane enough to work, the cast has fantastic chemistry and this time Jumanji is coming into our world. It is going to be pure fantastic chaos. (If anyone is wondering I will never play the game - I am simply too scared).

Avengers: Doomsday - 18th December 2026

Directed by: Anthony Russo and Joe Russo.

Staring: Vanessa Kirby, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Simu Lui, Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, Joseph Quinn, , Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Pedro Pascal and robert Downey Jr.

If I listed the whole cast for this film you would be reading this post into next week! The MCU has been on unstable ground, shall we say, since Avengers: Endgame. There have been some real gems in that time but overall the MCU have failed on the follow up, and now Doomsday almost feels like a reset. The X-Men trailer has me excited for the film, but Steven Rodgers returning makes me a little less happy. We will just have to see in December if Doomsday is the film we have all been waiting for.

Dune: Part 3 - 18th December

Directed by: Denis Villeneuve

Staring: Timothée Chalet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin.

Desert, dramatic score and giant worms. What more could you want from a Si-Fi film? I can't quite describe what exactly I love about the Dune film and yet I come out of the cinema after each one saying 'wow.' Pure epic cinema awaits us.

Of course this is not a definitive list, funnily enough my favourite or most watched films each year tend to not even make it onto this list. But when there are so many films to enjoy each year that is not a surprise.

Which films are you most looking forward to this year? and why?
