Dune: Part Two Review

Chaotic review incoming! Wow, it’s been a WHILE since I reviewed a movie, but I’ve come out of hibernation to review the much anticipated Dune: Part Two. My initial impression of Dune: Part One was: ‘for a movie that is mainly standing around, it’s a masterpiece.’ Despite my lack of experience with the source material, and my lack of reason for loving the first, I knew I had to see the second instalment on opening night. Which is exactly what I did! I’m glad I did because Dune: Part Two is categorically better than the first! Read on for my full review, potential mild spoilers with a dose of chaos! Enjoy!   Dune: Part Two picks us where the previous finished, Denis Villeneuve giving us one  continuous story, no flashbacks or memory trickers included. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem are joined by Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Léa Seydoux, Christopher Walken and Anya Taylor-Joy, the perfect all-star cast. The films stands at the 2h 45m mark, ye

Most Anticipated movies of 2020

Happy New Year everyone!! I hope your Christmas was fabulous. 2019 was a great year for the film industry (make sure you check out my top films of the decade: Click Here) and it looks like at least the next two years could be even better. 2020s film line up is interesting, there are no Wizarding World movies, no Star Wars and no huge Disney animations but there is still a huge number of movies to look forward to. I have created a list of movies I am most looking forward to (there are so many that I've had to really narrow down the list.) Give the post a read and let me know in the comments which films are you looking forward to in 2020.

Check out my list of Inspirational Female Characters here:  https://thisisjustafilmblog.blogspot.com/2020/01/15-inspirational-female-characters.html

  • Dolittle. Release Date 7th February. Dir: Stephen Gagham. Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Emma Thompson, Tom Holland, Michael Sheen. I knew nothing about Dolittle until the first trailer was released and I was instantly filled with wonder. This film looks incredible, has a fantastic cast and voice cast, I'm sure Dolittle will be a hit.
  • Birds of Prey and the Fabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. Release Date: 7th February. Dir: Cathy Yan. Starring: Margort Robbie, Ewan Mcgregor. I loved Margort Robbie's Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad and I love the idea of a solo Harley Quinn movie. But This film raises deeper questions into the DC Extended Universe so I'm intrigued to see what this film is all about and what it means for DC.
  • Onward. Release Date: 6th March. Dir: Dan Scanlon. Starring: Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus. This movie literally has evil unicorns - that makes me 100% interested in this film. Plus, great actors Tom Holland and Chris Pratt lending their voices to a Pixar movie is bound to create something special. Moreover, I would argue that Pixar has been struggling to create a lasting impression with their films so Onward being an original movie could be a great thing for Pixar.
  • Mulan. Release Date: 27th March. Dir: Niki Cara. Starring: Yifei Liu, Donnie Yen, Jet Li. I wasn't sure if I should include Mulan on my list or not. Whilst I admit the trailers for this film look great, I'm just sad that there's no songs and no Mushu in this live action remake. I really hope Mulan is as awesome as the 1998 version.
  • Black Widow. Release Date: 1st May. Dir: Cate Shortland. Starring: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr, David Harbour. We finally get a solo Black Widow movie and I could not be happier! Black Widow is one of my faviourte female characters and I cannot wait to see her finally take centre stage in her own movie. I've waited almost 10 years for this movie waiting 5 more feels almost impossible.
  • Legally Blonde 3. Release Date:  8th May. Dir: Jamie Suk. Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Alana Ubach, Jessica Cauffiel. Elle Woods is back, and I am so happy. We know very little about this film so far, but I am still so excited. I really hope the Elle is running for president.
  • Scoob! Release Date: 15th May. Dir: Tony Cervone. Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Mckenna Grace. I am a huge Scooby-Doo lover, I used to watch the animated show on TV after school as a child and the two live action films are brilliant. This movie looks great and I cannot wait to see what's in store for the gang.
  • Wonder Woman 1984. Release Date: 5th June. Dir: Patty Jenkins. Starring: Gal Gadot, Pedro Pascal, Chris Pine. I cannot wait for this movie! I loved the first one and the trailers for Wonder Woman 1984 look insane! A female superhero fights a female villain - how awesome is that? Also, this film is set in the 80's which makes me so happy!!
  • Top Gun: Maverick. Release Date: 26th June. Dir: Joseph Kosinski. Starring: Tom Cruse. Top Gun is back! Theres not much information on this film yet, but the first film is a classic which makes this film worth a watch. The trailer looks awesome and the stunts make this film an interesting addition to 2020s movie line-up.
  • Ghostbusters. Afterlife. Release Date: 10th July. Dir: Jason Reitman. Starring: Paul Rudd, Annie Potts, Bill Murray. I love Ghostbusters (not the most recent one) and I was so excited for Afterlife until I saw the trailer. I really hope this film is good, I know i'll be very nervous when I enter the cinema.
  • The Eternals. Release date: 6th November. Dir: Chloe Zhao. Staring: Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Kit Harrington. I'll be honest I have no idea who/what The Eternals are (I need to do some studying) but I know I am excited for this film. The cast is crazy and Marvel films rarely disappoint.

So that's my list! There are some other great films to look forward to this year from: 1917 (Sam Mendes), Misbehaviour (Philippa Lowthorpe), Tenet (Christopher Nolan), Dune (Denis Villeneuve), Bad Boys For Life (Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi), Jungle Cruise (Jaume Collet-Serra), The Call of The Wild (Chris Sanders) and so many more. Let me know what films you are looking forward to seeing. Bring on 2020!!

Thank you for reading xx

  2. I had no idea Legally Blonde 3 was happening. That's awesome! Also very excited for The Eternals and Wonder Woman and I hope they do a good job with Mulan. Can't say I'm quite psyched for Dolittle, as it pains me to see RDJ walking away from the Avengers for that role, but I hope it's fun!

  4. Exciting times for movie buffs indeed!

Personally I can't wait for Dune. I've read all the novels and seen the David Lynch offering many, many times. It will be interesting to see Villeneuve's take on it after his stab at Blade Runner.
