Dune: Part Two Review

Chaotic review incoming! Wow, it’s been a WHILE since I reviewed a movie, but I’ve come out of hibernation to review the much anticipated Dune: Part Two. My initial impression of Dune: Part One was: ‘for a movie that is mainly standing around, it’s a masterpiece.’ Despite my lack of experience with the source material, and my lack of reason for loving the first, I knew I had to see the second instalment on opening night. Which is exactly what I did! I’m glad I did because Dune: Part Two is categorically better than the first! Read on for my full review, potential mild spoilers with a dose of chaos! Enjoy!   Dune: Part Two picks us where the previous finished, Denis Villeneuve giving us one  continuous story, no flashbacks or memory trickers included. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem are joined by Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Léa Seydoux, Christopher Walken and Anya Taylor-Joy, the perfect all-star cast. The films stands at the 2h 45m mark, ye

15 Inspirational Female Characters

Hey everyone, Sorry for the lack of postings so far this year! I have been thinking about inspirational female movie and TV characters a lot recently. So, I thought I would share with you a list of the female characters I find most inspirational, some have influenced me, some have made me cry, some I have identified with and some are just awesome. I think it's great that we live in a period of time where women can take lead roles in all genres. This list started off as 10 inspirational women, but I couldn't narrow down the list! I am actually thinking about making this post the start of a series on inspirational female characters (and maybe male characters too) so make sure you keep an eye out for those in the next few months. Read on to find out who I think are 15 of the most inspirational female characters. I hope you like this list - make sure you leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Check out some of my other posts here: https://thisisjustafilmblog.blogspot.com/

1) Katniss Everdeen - (The Hunger Games 2012-2015)
We start the list with Katniss Everdeen (Played by Jennifer Lawrence). Katniss is an incredibly brave character that faces trial after trial, her skills as a hunter and her heart make Katniss a formidable foe.  Katniss is an accidental hero that inspires a nation by standing up for her beliefs and her family.

2) Hermione Granger - (Harry Potter 2001-2011)
I am a huge Harry Potter fan! Hermione Granger (Played by Emma Watson) is a strong character who takes strength from her cleverness. Not only does she willingly follow Harry into danger in each movie, but she also solves every problem they encounter, sets up Dumbledore's Army (and in the books: S.P.E.W), she stands up for what she believes in and shows no fear. I love everything about Hermione. Most of the female characters in Harry Potter are awesome.

3) Black Widow - (MCU 2010-2020)
Black Widow (Played by Scarlett Johansson) is the first female Avenger and she is one of the best superheroes in the MCU. She fights alongside gods, iron suits, legends and The Hulk but she never had to justify why she was there. She is the first real example of a female superhero being equal and she eventually gives her life to save everyone. She inspires me as a huge Marvel fan and I still get angry with the way her death was handled. But we finally get a solo Black Widow movie in this year and although it's 10 years late I cannot wait to see her steal the screen and show everyone how awesome she really is. I think it's a real shame that we never got to see her in the Portals scene and that she won't be in any all-female Avengers film (Such as A-Force).

4) Elle Woods - (Legally Blonde 2001, 2003, 2020)
Elle Woods (Played by Reece Witherspoon) has always been an inspiration to me. I identify with her a lot as a young blonde woman who is often classed as a dumb blonde - I even wanted to be a lawyer just like Elle at one point. Elle proved that she could do anything she set her mind too and I followed her example and got into university and got my masters (something that people are still surprised about). This year we get a third Legally Blonde movie and I really hope Elle is running for president.

5) Elizabeth Swann - (Pirates of the Caribbean 2003-2007, 2017)
I love Pirates of the Caribbean (it's even my favourite land and ride at Disneyland) and Elizabeth Swan (Played by Keira Knightley) is the most inspirational female pirate I have ever seen. She is by far the bravest character in the movies, going from a high-born lady to a pirate king who fights with a sword.

6) Lorelai Gilmore - (Gilmore Girls 2000-2007, 2016)
Lorelai Gilmore (Played by Lauren Graham) is incredible, unlike most of the characters on this list, she is faced with real-life problems. She is a single mum that worked her way up from living in little more than a shed with a baby at 16, working as a maid to a business owner with a daughter that graduated from a prestigious university. Lorelai provided the best life for herself and her daughter, never willingly accepted money or help and found solutions for her problems. She is a hero, her happy and quirky personality make her even more inspirational, if anyone ever compared my personality to Lorelai Gilmore, I would be the happiest person alive.

7) Daenerys Targaryen - (Game of Thrones 2011-2019)
All bow to the RIGHTFUL Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen (Played by Emilia Clarke). Daenerys was the reason I watched Game of Thrones, her power, her kindness (Until season 8), her strength and her relationship with her three dragons are all what make Dany such a great character. She never lets her gender stop her from becoming a Queen, she fights for what she believes in. I find her incredibly inspiring and when I need strength, I play her soundtrack! I will always be team Dany.

8) Eowyn - (Lord of the Rings 2002-2003)
Eowyn (played by Miranda Otto) is probably the most inspirational female character in Lord of the Rings! She gets her heart broken and instead of turning into a mess she instead goes to war - something she had been training for, but unable to do because of her gender. Eowyn kills the second biggest villain in middle earth without hesitation and her line 'I am no man' is brilliant.

9) Leia - (Star Wars 1977-1983, 2015-2019)
Princess/General Leia (Played by Carrie Fisher) makes this list for two reasons firstly she paved the way for all of Star Wars' strong female characters, secondly she is the face and leader of the rebellion that defeated The Empire and head The Resistance that fought to defeat her son and The First Order. Leia never had to explain why she was fighting or how she knew how to fire a blaster. Leia and the central role she takes throughout Star Wars is inspirational and the film industry owes her a great deal. She eventually gives her life to save her son from damnation, she trains Rey despite knowing her heritage and even though she lost nearly everyone she kept fighting for good without even a hint of darkness. I will always be a huge Leia fan and her attitude and strength inspire me daily.

10) Peggy Carter - (MCU 2011-2019)
Another MCU character is Peggy Carter (Played by Hayley Atwell). Peggy is in the army, is a secret agent and a founder of SHEILD. Whilst her roles in the Captain America movies highlight her skill Peggy shines in her TV show (which totally needed more seasons). Peggy is a forward-thinking character that is faced with sexism at every turn. Peggy shows us that no matter what, you can choose your career and you can succeed at it. Peggy is a duty-bound character that should inspire us all to fight against unfair and unfounded boundaries.

11 and 12) Elsa and Anna (Frozen 2013-2019)
Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) and Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) made this list because of Frozen 2, I loved Frozen and the relationship between the sisters is inspirational and the fact that true love came in the form of Elsa loving her sister rather than a prince being the solution is fantastic. But Frozen 2 really inspired me and that was because of Anna and Elsa. Anna risks her own life in a moment when she thinks her sister and Olaf are most likely dead in order to do the right thing and save her people. Elsa goes on a journey of discovery that results in self-acceptance which is one of the most inspirational things - the scene at the end is incredibly freeing. Anna and Elsa are incredibly different inspirational female characters that Children and adults alike need to be watching.

13) Padme - (Star Wars 1999-2005)
Padme (Played by Natalie Portman) is the reason I got into Star Wars as a child. I remember watching The Phantom Menace and falling in love her costumes and then when she fights for her people not just with words but with blasters I realised that Padme was a rounded character that was a leader with conviction and strength. She later goes on to battle in politics, fight alongside Jedi and become a commander in the Clone Wars. She pulls strength from her relationship with Anakin but will not follow him down a path of darkness, her line 'So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause' is one of my favourite Star Wars quotes. Padme is an incredibly inspirational character and my all-time faviourte Star Wars character. (I wish I could try on some her outfits!!).

14) Mulan - (Mulan 1998)
Mulan was the first movie I ever saw at the cinema and the character Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen) is an incredible female character. In order to protect her father, she cuts off her hair, runs away and takes his place in the army! She trains and become a solider but what makes Mulan so special is she is never content playing the role of duty-bound wife: she rebels against what is expected of her and in doing so she saves China. Mulan is incredible.

15)  Miranda Priestly - (The Devil Wears Prada 2006)
Finally, we have Miranda Priestly (Played by Meryl Streep). Miranda Priestly is the successful editor-in-chief of a massive magazine, she is clever, cunning and incredibly good at her job. However, she had to sacrifice a lot to be successful, but never once does she give up or lose sight of her dream.

So, there you have it my list of 15 inspirational female characters, every one of these characters have amazing qualities and all have inspired me. I'm thinking about doing list of inspirational characters in: Star Wars, Harry Potter, the MCU and so many more.

What characters have inspired you?

Thank you for reading xx
